I saw your advertisement for Grooming Classes, can you give me an overview of the course?
The objective of the class is to teach students the basics of pet grooming and qualify them for an entry level grooming position. We do not teach students how to groom show dogs or how to groom for competition because these are skill that takes years to learn.
How long is the class and what days are classes?
The course is 200 hours. It consists of 24 hours of classroom lecture, training videos and written exams. The remaining 176 hours involve hands on training with actual pets. Class size is limited to 5 students. Depending on the number on enrollments, we have either one or two instructors.
Full time classes take about 5-6 weeks to complete. Classes are Tuesday – Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Part time classes are flexible with completion time. If a student can come to class 2 days per week for eight hours per day it would take about 13 weeks to complete the class. Days for part time classes are flexible, but we must schedule the course days well in advance to ensure we have the proper breed for them to work on.
How much is the class?
The class cost is $3,000, which includes the $100 registration fee, the tuition fee, two texts books and all of the equipment.
We accept all major credit cards. If special payment arrangements are needed, the director will need to work out those arrangements with the student. We also accept financial aid with the Sallie Mae Foundation. Please visit their website
http://salliemae.com/Can you make a good living?
That depends on your current lifestyle. If you are a doctor and make $150,000 per year, then no you can’t make a good living. But many people find grooming a rewarding career due to its emphasis on hands-on skills and their love of animals.
Groomers typically get paid like hairdressers. They usually get a 50% commission for the dogs they groom. So the more dogs you groom the more money you will make.
How much can I make?
When you first start out you may only be grooming 2 to 3 dogs per day. With average groom being $30.00 you will not make much. But there are many groomers who will do 10 dogs a day. It takes time to build-up your skills, confidence, and speed.
How many students do you take?
Class size is limited to 5 students. Depending on the number on enrollments, we have either one or two instructors.
When is your next class?
They start regularly through the year.
What’s the next step?
If you are interested, come visit the school and fill out an application.
After the application is completed the director of the school will review the application and arrange an interview.
Once accepted, the registration fee of $100.00 will be due and the remaining $2,900.00 will be due by the first day of class. In some cases, you can cut the payment into two parts so long as 50% of the course fees are paid before beginning class and the remainder a few weeks later.
